Insulin infusion in the umbilical vein

During insulin infusion into the umbilical vein, the insulin runs through the umbilical vein in the peritoneum. This insulin, admitted from the peritoneum, reaches the liver first. The insulin takes effect within a few minutes. The patient can also be certain that the quantity of insulin required will have the anticipated effect. A rapid response to hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia is therefore possible.
