Activating The Battery

  • A film is visible at the top of your Accu-Chek go meter, protecting the battery compartment cover.   Pull the film until the battery cover comes out of its guide.  Remove the film from the battery.
  • Next, slide the battery compartment back into the meter gently until you hear it click.
  • To change the battery, remove the old battery and place the new one in the tray with the positive (plus) side facing down.

Initial Setup

  • Setting the time and date and format is important if you use the meter’s memory or connect it to a computer to download results.
  • With the meter off, press the S button for three seconds.  The meter is now on and in Set mode.
  • Press the “M” button to change the time format (12-or 24-hour).
  • Press the “M” button to change the hour.
  • Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to change the minutes, year, month, and day.
  • Now the alarm functions appear. With the M button you can turn this function on and than program up to three individual alarms: use the M button for your selection, the S button for confirmation.

Coding

  • With the meter off, gently slide the orange code key into the code key slot. You should hear a click as it easily snaps into place.
  • When you insert a test strip, make sure the code on the meter matches the code on the test strip vial.
  • Throw away the old code key.

Performing A Control Test

For control testing, you'll need your meter, with the coding chip inserted, a test strip and  the Accu-Chek Go control solutions

Take a new test strip from the vial.  Hold the test strip so the printed arrows face up.

To run a control test, insert the test strip until you feel it engage, with the arrow pointing toward the meter.

After the flashing blood drop appears, you have 1-1/2 minutes (90 seconds) to apply control solution to the strip.

When the flashing blood drop appears on the screen, press the "S" button to mark the test as a control. You can also do this right after you get your test result, but not after the meter turns off. A control bottle symbol is displayed on the screen and stored in the memory to show that this result is from a control test. This ensures also that this result is not used for statistical evaluations.

Place one drop of the control solution to the edge of the test strip. When the test is done, the meter will display the test result.

Check that the result with the low control solution is within the low range on the test strip vial. Make sure that the result with the high control solution is within the high range on the test strip vial.

Running a Blood Glucose Test

  • Using warm water, wash and then dry your hands.
  • Hold the test strip so the printed arrows are pointing upward. Without bending it, gently push the test strip into the test strip guide of your Accu-Chek Go meter in the direction the arrows are pointing, until you feel it engage. Inserting the test strip automatically turns on the meter.
  • Make sure the code on the meter matches the code on the test strip vial.
  • When you see the flashing blood drop, hold the lancet device against the side of your fingertip and press the release button.
  • Gently squeeze your fingertip to get a drop of blood. Touch the front edge of the test strip against the blood drop. Your Accu-Chek Go meter beeps briefly (provided the beep tone is turned on) to acknowledge that the correct amount of blood has been drawn up.
  • An hourglass symbol appears on the screen, and then the test result appears after approx. 5 seconds only!
  • To remove the lancet, take off the lancet device cap and point the lancet end away from yourself.
  • Hold the meter above a waste bin. Remove now the test strip from the meter by briskly pressing the test strip ejector forwards as far as it will go (towards the test strip guide). Keep the ejector in that position until the test strip falls out. The meter turns off automatically once the test strip has been ejected.
