What is Gauge and why are there different millimeter declarations to a Gauge size?
Gauge is a measurement unit often used to declare a needle diameter. Basically it is a measurement of the diameter or cross-sectional area of a wire. The lancet needles are made of a wire which is being stretched until a specific diameter has been reached.
The reason why the millimeter declaration of a specific Gauge varies is a result of different calculation methods used. Therefore, e.g. a 28 Gauge needle can be stated as 0.4 mm or 0.36 mm.
